In this article, we provide all of the step-by-step solutions to fully removing Avast free for Windows 10, 8, 8.1 and 7. Keep in mind that cybersecurity is still important, and you should consider a different product if you didn’t like this one.

Step 1: Close Avast Free Antivirus.

Stop any Avast programs you have running in the background, no matter what they are. It’s always better to close the program, even if it doesn’t affect the uninstall process, because it could present problems later and cause you to have to start over.

Step 2: Open your list of uninstalled programs.

Windows 7: Open the Start menu, select Control Panel, and click on Uninstall a Program.

Windows 8: Open the Start menu, select Control Panel, and click on Uninstall a Program.

On Windows 10: Click on the Start button and choose Programs and Features.

Step 3: Remove Avast Free from the Program list.

You should be able to click on the Avast program listing and select uninstall. You may also be able to double click on the program to activate the default uninstaller, confirm the removal, and then wait for the uninstall wizard to finish the uninstallation process.

Step 4: Follow the prompts.

The uninstallation process will present you with a series of prompts like, “Do you want to reinstall the program?” to which you will say no. You can also say no when it asks whether you want to keep your personal data.

If you choose not to reinstall the program, look for bundled programs you also want to uninstall. These could include Google Chrome or other unrelated programs you didn’t know you had. Follow the steps above to remove any other unnecessary programs from your computer.

Step 5: Open the Windows Registry Editor.

Windows 7: Open the Start menu and type “regedit” in your search box.

Windows 8: Hover over the bottom right part of your screen, select Search, and type “regedit” in the box.

Windows 10: Type “regedit” in the search box on the taskbar in the bottom left corner of your screen.

Step 6: Delete the vestiges.

Make sure you have completely uninstalled all Avast programs from the Programs and Features list. You can then navigate to the folder titled “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Avast Software” and delete it.

To verify you removed Avast free antivirus 2019 completely, select Edit > Find on the navigator and enter “Avast Free Antivirus” to find any other files or folders that may contain remnants of the program. This will ensure it has been removed and all of your personal settings have been deleted.

Step 7: Restart your computer.

To make sure all of these changes take effect, you need to restart your computer. Once you reboot your machine, check your system tray on the right end of the taskbar to ensure Avast is not running and open your Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del on your keyboard to make sure the removal was successful.

If you have Avast free antivirus 2019 installed and you would prefer to remove it instead of upgrading your software, you can do so by following these steps. They may look complicated, but if you follow them, you will be able to quickly and successfully remove Avast free for Windows 10, 8, 8.1, and 7.
